NewsEditPro

NewsEditPro is a text management program designed specifically for journalists, by journalists. We've made it easy for reporters to write and file stories and place images where their editors can find them with just a few steps. We have reduced the most common editing moves to a few keystrokes and we've drastically cut back on the amount of time journalists usually spend rifling through folders and queues looking for stories.

NewsEditPro allows you to find images quickly, whether they're photos, graphics or logos. You can crop, resize and move them and even write cutlines that are flowed onto your QuarkXPress or InDesign pages along with the image.
We've taken the process even further for copy editors and layout editors. NewsEditPro's Document Preview window allows you to write a headline while viewing the actual column settings or image, and more.

NewsEditPro's Copy Management capabilities allow you to breeze through folders, going exactly to the stories and images you need via paths you set up. When you write and edit stories, you can view them in whatever font at whatever size you want. And NewsEditPro's spell-checker, which features a thesaurus, is customizable so it won't flag commonly used words that are unique to your publication.

Paginators will be thrilled with the ease with which they can "drag and drop" their stories and images, complete with style sheets. Our Smart Keys can paste in a byline or other commonly used text strings with just the press of a button. And the Notes function in NewsEditPro allows you to post messages that follow your stories throughout the system, saving you the trouble of having to chase down key personnel.

TYPICAL WORKFLOW

Starting a story
Simply choose "New" from the File menu and NewsEditPro brings up a dialog box. You can name your story and select the location where you'd like it stored (such as a folder on your own hard drive, "In Progress"). NewsEditPro can also be configured to default to certain locations, so you don't have to decide anything except the slugline.

Writing a story
NewsEditPro is designed for journalists, so your style sheets and configurations all conform to your publishing styles and configurations. Yet each user can set up preferences to his or her own liking. A screen can be set to be viewed at 200 percent, stories can be written in one-column widths, spell-checking can be inline and interactive or can wait until the end, and much more. The length of each file is automatically calculated as the story is written.

Handy editing
NewsEditPro allows you to "drag and drop" type from one part of a story to another and even between stories. The function is the same as Cut and Paste from the Edit menu, but saves you several steps. Select the type you wish to move, whether it's a word, several words or entire paragraphs. Click and hold down the mouse button while you "drag" the type to its destination, then let go of the mouse button. You can also hold down the Option key while doing this to "copy" the text. You can see several documents on your screen at once by using the Windows menu.

Finishing a story
After you've finished writing and spell-checking your story, save it one last time. Next, choose Copy To from the hierarchical Copy Management menu within the Document menu. A hierarchical menu will feature any paths you've set up (see Path preferences). You also have the option to Move your story, although the original file will be deleted after it is copied to the destination. You can also Rename your story by using the Copy Management function. You can also move stories from folder to folder right from the directories. NewsEditPro also has a Quick Copy function that allows you to send a copy of a story to a predesignated folder by selecting the story in the directory, holding down the Option key and double-clicking.

Finding stories
Choose Open from the File menu. Use the Location pop-up menu, the navigation buttons, or your preset paths to find the story you need. When you find the story you want to open, double-click it, or select it and click Open. You can also create paths to frequently used folders.
